Autism Plus ‘Can do IT’ with donation from the Santander Foundation
12 January 2012
Hundreds of individuals with autism and other disabilities across Yorkshire and Humber will be getting to grips with IT after a local charity secured a £10,000 donation from the Santander Foundation to fund their 'I can do IT' project.
Autism Plus aims to empower those living with autism and other complex conditions to live as independently as possible. Thanks to the donation, the charity will be able to purchase 25 laptop computers and iPads to facilitate their 'I can do IT' project, which will teach individuals a range of IT skills including how to send emails, how to create their CV and use the internet to look for employment.
Melanie Russell, Fundraiser at Autism Plus said: "The individuals we work with have difficulties that can require a lot of support, leading to dependency on their support workers. Through the 'I can do IT' project, we want to enable people to develop skills to become as independent as possible. The donation from the Santander Foundation will allow us to provide much needed IT equipment and software for this project."
Liz Pickering, Relationship Director at Santander said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the centre to meet some of the service users who are benefitting from this fantastic project and witness the new IT equipment in action. Autism Plus strive hard to ensure those living with difficulties live as independently as possible and I'm sure this project will help them to reach this goal."
