Pupils and staff at a local school are celebrating after learning they have banked a £9,745 donation from the Santander Foundation to fund a new outdoor classroom and facilities.

Morecambe Road School specialises in working with children with a spectrum of learning difficulties ranging from autism to challenging behaviour and communication difficulties.  The new classroom will enable teachers to facilitate outdoor learning for students to help broaden their imagination and resourcefulness by making contact with the natural world.  The donation has also enabled the school to install eco-friendly benches and seating around the playground.

Paul Edmondson, Head Teacher at Morecambe Road School said: "We are extremely grateful to the Santander Foundation for providing us with the funds to make this project possible.  The classroom is multifunctional and the students enjoy it as a space to learn, relax, take part in role play and make new friends in the friendship circle."

Tom Stead, Personal Banking Advisor at Santander's Morecambe branch said: "The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes around the UK to support disadvantaged people through education and training projects.  We were very impressed by the work of Morecambe Road School and were keen to help them develop the learning experiences that they offer their students."
