Sight Advice banks donation for training courses

10 August 2011

Residents of South Lakes who have recently been registered as blind or partially sighted are to benefit from new training courses after a local charity secured a donation of £8,936 from the Santander Foundation.

Sight Advice South Lakes aims to support local people with visual impairments to continue to live independently and remain active in their community.  The training courses will provide practical support and information on how to use visual aids in and outside the home as well as building confidence for people who are coming to terms with losing their sight.

Carl Hodge, Director of Sight Advice South Lakes, said: "This donation will enable us to provide up to 40 people with valuable assistance and guidance on how to continue to live independently and confidently.  We would like to express our thanks to the Santander Foundation for their kind support as it will help us make a real difference to those who are facing the challenge of being visually impaired."

Anoushka Brown, Communications Manager at Santander, said: "People with deteriorating sight can lose confidence and begin to feel vulnerable and isolated. Sight Advice aim to combat this by raising awareness on equipment that is available to assist in day to day living at the earliest possible opportunity.  We are delighted to have been able to support such a worthwhile project."
